The coast of ancient Ortigia has two ports, Porto Grande (“Large”) and PortoPiccolo (“Small”). The latter, following the meandering coastline, east of the island curves closely together, forming two almost entirely protected landings like watery courtyards for seagoing vessels. Both ports were key links to the Greeks for colonising Sicily and for trade between the Greeks and Carthaginians in the ancient world.

We will look at one of the most fascinating islands of Ortigia, the “fountain of Arethusa ,” with its papyrus plants , overlooking the Ionian Sea. We will also walk to the local market located in the heart of Ortigia, rich in vegetables, fish and produce.which is one of the most beautiful cities in Sicily surrounded by Ionic sea . Spanish and others have built here best examples of architecture . The most curious is of course The cathedral , Because part of the wall of the church is the old Temple of Athena . It is recommendable to make a walk along the Promenade Alpheus where you can admire the old city wall made by the order of Spanish King Charles V. At the end of Ortigia corner you will find Maniace Castle, named by Georgio Maniace famous captain who managed to free most of Ionic coast from Arabs , but the castle itself is made by Frederic II. Then we drive back to the starting point Catania / Giardini Naxos / Messina where you might prefer to visit the most important parts of the city.or cultral and you can enjoy a mouthwatering famous cannoli or an ice cream, maybe a cappuccino, the choice is yours.
